This longing and waiting is not only found in the season of Advent but we feel it more heavily in it. We are all longing and waiting for something and in this season you can know that you are not alone. In this waiting we are also longing for the day when all will be made right, when all our tears will be no more, and peace will be the norm. I pray these poems will help yo see hope in the waiting allowing your heart to expand with peace. The king is coming and He is our peace.
The Longing
(Inspired from Luke 1:5-36)
A longing buried deep In an aging body asleep Not once imagining it could be awakened In silence Zachariah’s heart quaked Elizabeth could not figure it out This tenderness with which he held her His silence disarming her fear So, she leaned in placing over his heart her ear She awoke to find her womb with life aflutter Life at once becoming a paradox Favor so profound that these joyful words she utters “He has seen me, and my inmost longings to Him flock” In haste Mary, still a young girl Journeys a thousand feet uphill in a blur She’s longing for answers to explain her life’s new tone Pregnant with miracles reserved for the lesser known “Favored one, do not fear,” was the greeting Though full of peace her heart is fiercely beating So much to process as life within her unfurls But her thoughts drift back to the upcoming meeting Who would speak or would they sing first? A ripening cousin’s womb alive and full A young body still giving in to the growing pull Find that both are becoming joy - filled to burst Their longings no longer their own In fact overshadowed by heavenly light Now they carry two precious promises - though, not alone For the longing of man’s desire was soon dawning bright In rupture and awe they hold each other A blessing song erupts “What blessing has come forth Blessed is the fruit of your womb, blessed is my Lord’s mother For we have believed His word and our souls have found their worth" ~DFD
Advent Peace Playlist
Second week of Advent
Music has always helped me mark time, keeping pace with the rhythm of peace. I want slow down and rest in the longing. This second week of Advent playlist helps me do just that. I can be present in this season of waiting with the help of those who created these beautiful songs. May this Advent season continue to help you slowly find your way to the Light of the World.
For He himself is our peace…
Ephesians 2:14a
Gracefully,
