Birthday Season & Lent
We have at least five birthdays between the 28th of January and Feb 29th. I love that the celebrations continue but also sprinkled in through out the month are other fun holidays to celebrate. This season feels even more charged with hope since last week we began the Lenten season.
This Lenten season I am determining that in every failure I have hope. Because my desire for how to still and quiet my heart this season has already failed but I choose to return to the Lord, humbly asking him to start with me again. He is our shepherd after all, isn’t he? He knows how prone to wander I am and he still pursues me, he makes sure that goodness and mercy follow me all the days of my life, therefore in all things I lack nothing.
So, I will try again every hour to fix my eyes on him and not on my own understanding. I shared a little bit of my heart in this post as I decrease my presence on social media to still the hum of distraction that seeps throughout my day.
Sundays will be for celebrating as they are known to be mini Easters. I will make space for the beauty scattered all around just for me. I will make sure we have cake as many times as we can. I pray that this season will flow in a rhythm of rest, reflection, and celebration for you too. I pray that as we remember our brokenness we can also make time to remember that He came to set us free! He who is faithful will also return to make all things new again! Amen, come soon Lord Jesus.
Reply to this email and tell me one thing you are choosing to return again and again from this lent season. Or one thing you are choosing to celebrate despite the hard things? I will be choosing a reply and send you a coffee gift card!
Poetry
I love to make time for reflecting through poetry. This poem I started it last year in my journal and really enjoyed reshaping it and find newness to infuse it with this year. I hope it encourages your heart.
Ash Wednesday For dust you are and to dust you will return May I remember your goodness here and far My sin so apparent My confession at times incoherent May I remember your grace in your love inherent Like palm branches burning to ash so my sin after confession my shoulders light as I empty my heavy stash I wait, I let go as tears filter through my eyelashes I encounter your grace pregnant with promises poised calling for the Spirit to blow on the ashes That winsome and wonderful wind carries my sin away, away, away -DFD

Our guest Writer Series is going strong. I am so honored to get to share my friend’s stories of grace around the table and the many ways they have been nourished by it. We have had some good ones recently and will be showcasing them here these next few weeks.
But today, I encourage you to take time to read Natalie’s contribution. A beautiful and practical piece on preparing ahead to gather well.
Stay tuned for the next contributor this month we will be doing a major giveaway here! My official yearly birthday month giveaway is coming up and I know you will love it!

This sweet newsletter has been named officially. I have played around with names and logos for a long time but I am so glad to have landed here. Thanks to my recent work with the Inspired Foundry, I am adding newness to all the things digital and it is so much fun! Make sure to check out the website to see the changes and of course if you get a chance send me any feedback, I would value it truly.
Lastly a little sneak peek into the website changes and these gorgeous forget me knot earrings are bringing me so much joy! They come straight from the loving hands of artisan partners in India and I am so glad to support them from here! I know they are sold out right now but more are on the way! Check out this how it’s made video!
